Series of EU Days across India 2017-2019

Categories: News

The Delegation of the European Union to India will be organising a series of EU Days at selected Indian universities and higher education institutions in India to widen the EU’s interaction with academic institutions and students. The idea behind the initiative is to give the students and faculty an insight into the EU project, its founding principles and policies and to promote awareness of the EU as a destination for higher education and research for Indian students.

As part of the EU Day, presentations will be made on the EU funded programmes including Erasmus +, Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions (MSCA), and Jean Monnet programme. A total of 12 EU Days are going to be organised at different academic institutions all over India over the next two years.

The first EU Day will be on EU’s Foreign & Security Policy: Challenges & Opportunities, hosted by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune on 1 December 2017. To participate at this and other EU Days stay tuned on EURAXESS India EVENTS section.

In addition to the EU Days, EU Higher Education Virtual Fair will also be organised which will comprise of a series of webinars to be addressed by EU HEIs to promote the EU as a destination for higher education amongst Indian students. Annual events of Erasmus students and alumni are also planned. More than 5000 Indian students have so far benefited from scholarships to study at European universities and HEIs under the Erasmus Mundus / Erasmus + programme.

The EU Days are being organised under the EU Public Diplomacy in India through Policy and Outreach Partnerships (EUPOP) project, which has been launched as part of the EU’s efforts to enhance the visibility of the European Union as a whole, to promote a better understanding of EU’s actions and positions and exert a positive influence on how the EU is perceived in India.

Enhancing Public Diplomacy is one of the key priorities under the EU Global Strategy for Foreign and Security Policy. India is a ‘strategic partner’ of the EU and the multidimensional fifty-year old EU-India relationship is today characterised by high level political summits and official meetings as well as trade and economic exchanges. The EU is India's largest trade and investment partner. The EU public diplomacy project is expected to contribute to strengthening this relationship.

When relevant to researcherers, EURAXESS India will also contribute to the EU Days and the EU Higher Education Virtural Fair.
